Feeds the Soul

Art, Reinterpreted

Any work of art is an expression of its artist, imbued with their life essence. The Feeds the Soul project is built upon this belief. Incepted in 2023, the first Feeds the Soul album has since been interpreted by artists of varied mediums. Next, each artistic output will be reinterpreted back into music to form a new sonic descendant.

Diverse Musical Expression

This project aims to capture the full spectrum of human emotion. Thus, each album in this interconnected series must meet certain criteria:

  • The album must be exactly 12 tracks in length.

  • Each track must be a different key, with no repeating root notes.

  • Tracks must be ordered according to the circle of fifths

  • All songs on each album must be the same BPM

    • Halftime and double-time are allowed.

  • Each track must use elements of the track which inspired the art that is being reinterpreted, where applicable.

    • These can be samples of the full song, or individual stems.

Artistic Freedom

Those who contribute non-musical works are given free reign over creative direction of their work(s), so long as they produce one of the following:

  • A single composite piece, representing an album as a whole

  • A series of pieces, with one per track of the album.

Realizing this vision would not be possible without the contributions from artists located across the country.

"I often have a difficult time projecting what is going on in my brain onto a canvas. This project has pushed my creativity further than my typical comfort zone. As an artist, I often create what I'm used to - what is 'safe'. I'm thankful to be supported by a fellow artist to reach limits I didn't know possible." - Mads

"This project, and all the events that have taken place since its inception, have changed me as an artist and as a person. Conceptualizing this release has been one of the toughest, yet most rewarding assignments entrusted upon me. I hope that the growth we have experienced as artists and as friends continues to bloom as we move along our respective journeys." - 5meomartian

"This has been a grounding constant during an ungrounded time in my life -- it has been such a pleasure to be a part of. It gave me so much beauty to focus on while living in a tough environment. Thank you for creating music that inspired and guided these pieces, and for starting such an awesome, creative idea." - Al

Batik

"I feel it is important to highlight the batik art form, which originated from Indonesia. The technique involves layering molten wax onto cloth, and is referred to as wax-resist dyeing. This particular collection is hand-drawn, but the process may also involve use of wooden blocks for applying the various shapes and patterns." - Buddy
